About Joan M. Franklin, Ph.D.

Licensed psychologist serving Rockwall and surrounding communities.

Professional Background

I am a licensed psychologist with more than 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I provide psychotherapy for concerns including anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, and life transitions.

My professional background includes outpatient and inpatient treatment, residential care, school consultation, child protective services, and court-related work as an expert witness. I am also associated with Rockwall Psychiatry and collaborate with medical providers when appropriate.

My Approach

Treatment is based on each patient’s age, needs, and goals. With children, sessions may include play-based methods. With adolescents and adults, therapy may focus on understanding patterns, developing coping skills, improving communication, and making practical changes.

Healing, Connection, and the Value of Animals

My love for healing extends beyond the therapy office. On my small farm, I breed and raise thoroughbred racehorses and have a deep appreciation for the comfort, connection, and emotional support animals can provide.

When clinically appropriate, I may incorporate animal-assisted therapy into my work. I believe animals can offer a unique source of calm, connection, and trust, especially for patients who may benefit from a supportive and nonjudgmental therapeutic presence.
